While I've always leaned towards cards, pulizie uova, and other methods of reading, tea leaves have always interested me. But I'm not a tea girl; I LOVE my coffee, so, grounds reading has always been more my style! Just like tea leaves, coffee grounds can reveal hidden messages and provide a glimpse into your future. Let's dive in and explore the art of reading & interpreting coffee grounds. Some readers will read grounds on a saucer. In this blog post, we’ll explore reading them in the cup.
What is a Coffee Ground Reading?
A coffee ground reading, also known as tasseography, is an ancient divination practice that originated in the Middle East and has been passed down through generations. It involves interpreting patterns and symbols formed by coffee grounds left in a cup after drinking.
How to Read Coffee Grounds
Reading coffee grounds may seem strange at first, but with practice and patience, you'll be an expert in no time! Here are the steps to get you started:
Step 1: Prepare Your Coffee
Brew a cup of coffee using your preferred method. It's important to use loose coffee grounds rather than a coffee filter to allow the grounds to settle at the bottom of the cup. Before brewing, I like to cleanse my space. You can use sage, incense, or mists to do so, whichever is your favorite. Often, I'll light a candle (not necessarily a coffee one, but go right ahead if that feels right!).
Step 2: Drink Mindfully
As you enjoy your coffee, focus on your thoughts and intentions. Clear your mind and allow yourself to be present in the moment. This will help you establish a connection with the coffee grounds.
Step 3: Leave a Small Amount of Liquid
When you finish drinking your coffee, leave a small amount of liquid at the bottom of the cup. This will create a medium for the coffee grounds to form patterns and symbols.
Step 4: Swirl and Settle
Gently tap the bottom of your cup on your table four times, and, then, gently swirl the cup in a clockwise direction three times. This will help the coffee grounds distribute evenly and settle at the bottom of the cup.
Step 5: Interpret the Symbols
Now comes the exciting part – interpreting the symbols! Carefully observe the patterns and shapes formed by the coffee grounds. Some interpret the grounds at the bottom as the past, midsection present, top for the future — Don’t worry if you only have a bottom! Here are some common symbols and their meanings:
- Circle: Unity and wholeness
- Cross: A decision or choice
- Tree: Growth and abundance
- Heart: Love and relationships
- Spiral: Transformation and change
These are just a handful of common symbols.
Step 6: Trust Your Intuition
While there are traditional interpretations for coffee ground symbols, it's important to trust your intuition and personal connection with the coffee grounds. The meanings may vary based on your own experiences and beliefs. For example, letters or shapes in the grounds, similar to those in the yolk of an egg cleanse or pulizia, can point to people, place or things in your life that can either been seen as a warning or something just to pay a little more attention to.
Step 7: Reflect and Learn
After interpreting the symbols, take a moment to reflect. Remember, coffee ground reading is a form of divination and should be approached with an open mind and a sense of curiosity.
Enjoy & embrace the process. Reading with or from someone that's intuitive and experienced can help, but always trust yourself! Happy reading!
